For your Info:
After the success of the 2012 event, Eastern Region Fish & Game is organising another duck hunters day, this time before the 2017 game bird hunting season.
The aim is to educate hunters in our region on how to be more successful at attracting and hunting ducks, and encourage youth hunters into the sport.
The day's programme aims to impart highly practical advice in realistic hunting situations, while providing a fun atmosphere for those who attend.
Topics to be covered include:
- pond decoy layouts (ducks)
- field decoy layouts (ducks, parries and Canada geese)
- duck calling
- maimai preparation
- gun fitting and patterning (note: there will be no live shooting of guns)
- dog retrieving displays and skills
- predator trapping
And a competition will be held aimed at the youth hunter – requiring knowledge of firearm safety, waterfowl identification, face painting and duck calling, with first prize a Mossberg 20g pump action shotgun sponsored by Kilwell.
Entry is free, with multiple raffles from sponsored prizes to recover costs for the day.
The duck hunters day is to take place Sunday, 23rd April 2017 (10.00am - 2.30pm), at the
Lower Kaituna WMR wetland, 6km northeast of Te Puke.
Mark the date on your calendar, keep an eye out for more promotion of the event in the F&G magazine
and regional newsletter, and on the F&G website. Fish & Game New Zealand | Fish and Game
