Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms
Hmm. Interesting one this. We have been woken at first light for the last two saturdays by at least two guns shooting ducks on the man made waterways on the very edge of Whitianga. Doesnt bother me, but I have wondered if they may be a bit close for comfort.
Would be no more than 4 or 5 hundred meters from the homes
I cant be arsed to get out of bed to go and look, but they are shooting somewhere in the red area

I've got a felling that you only have to be 200 mts away from a dwelling . Some one may put that straight pls
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms
It is a bit more complicated than simple distance:
Section 48 Arms Act 1983
Every person commits an offence and is liable on conviction to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 3 months or to a fine not exceeding $3,000 or to both who, without reasonable cause, discharges a firearm, airgun, pistol, or restricted weapon in or near—
(a) a dwellinghouse; or
(b) a public place,—
so as to endanger property or to endanger, annoy, or frighten any person.
Just annoying or frightening is enough for the offence to occur.
My neighbour was thinning out a few roosters with a 410 a while back and damn near every bang was followed by pallets landing on my tin roof. Fortunately it didn't about or frighten me haha. I shoot on a pond that is about 100m from my neighbors house but I position myself to shoot away toward about 2000 acres of farm land, about the only annoyance is his bloody dog doesn't shut up
Sent from my work bench
If i could have a full time job shooting pests i'm up for over time.
ffs wasn't me

Shooting in a wild life reserve was the problem, not so much the proximity to dwellings it's always been a reserve in my life time
What is not mentioned in that article is that the duck hunter was in a wildlife reserve
SOMETIMES I QUESTION MY SANITY......OCCASIONALLY IT ANSWERS BACK .!
Here is the police report..
"Firearms Incident - Porirua - Wellington"
Firearms charges are being considered against a man who was arrested by Porirua Police on Saturday evening. Police were called to the Pauatahanui Inlet after shots were heard. A man was found duck shooting in a wildlife reserve, near a residential area. Hunters are reminded to hunt only in areas where hunting is permitted, abide by the conditions of their firearms licences and make safety their first priority.
"It is crucial that hunters follow the law and safety rules" says Senior Sergeant Simon King of the Wellington Police.
"Police will treat any breaches extremely seriously." Ends
