Thread: eastern f&g pass some wierd shit

eastern has gazzetted a one hen limit to thier 5 cockbird take for the coming pheasant season
they have also passed a motion to allow ducks to be shot on preserves
has the world finally gone tits up

It's 1 hen for the 2nd and 3rd of May. Whats the big deal?

Is the duck pond at Cornwall Park in Hastings classed as a preserve?

If so I'm down there tagging the place for myself.

No deeks required there either just a loaf of stale bread.

the big deal istoby with struggling gamebird populations you dont shoot the females ie the yanks with hen mallard limits and the rest of the world with wild pheasant populations.only commercial shoots/preserves shoot hens no other counttry allows shooting of wild hen pheasants because its stupid,self defeating and has been the tradition that hens are sancrosanct for ever and a day

a\ you cant tag preserves they,re private b] if they let you shoot ducks remember your amx/mastercard/visa

pretty hard to tell the diff with some of our hybrids especially in low light impossible with greys

I doubt there's many people that would go after pheasants on opening to shoot a hen anyway. Over reacting for nothing imo

Ive eyed those ducks up on many an occasion. Think how fat they will be

This is an interesting matter re the hen pheasants...a rooster can tend to a maximum of say six or so hens (in the wild)...then there are the 'barren' hens (which tend to be of a lighter colour than the nesting ones)...these will put nesting hens off their nests...so if the population warrants it, why not have a bag for them...the way I see is that when there is an imbalance of the sexes, by natural attrition you are not going to get a greater population...vis a vis, it is pretty much a fallacy and as @gsp follower mentions, the concept of the hens being sacrosanct is so positively Victorian in its relevance.

see your comparing the poms with us the poms have always shot hens cos thier birds are stocked.
in a wild situation not one country in the worlds wildlife managers allow the taking of hen pheasants.
toby if your the young fella that aint been out much i,l forgive your lack of forethought.
if not i think i,l stick with the thinking of every american canadian and other countries wildlife managers who say the shooting of wild hen pheasants is bordering on wild pheasant hunting suicide.

They will be as fat as a fat thing on their fattest day.

And tender as.

All the little kids in town and the Nanas across the road feed them up everyday.

Only trouble is I recon that the Nanas will instantly spot one or two missing and be onto to you straight away.

The Ducks probably all got names that they answer too.

completly off my own subject but..
any one see the 3 news thing that feeding ducks bread contributes to the botulism spread and mortality??

I've been out enough to know that 1 hen pheasant a day for 2 days of the whole season wont do diddly squat considering there will be next to no one that will go out after the one hen anyway.

More hens probably get shot from the kids running around with slug guns than what will be shot on opening weekend.
