Score 1 to the pheasant this morning. Dog tracked a running bird nearly 300m thru the scrub along the edge of a creek and it flushed just in an un-shootable position.
It was a great chase with multiple points and then repositioning as the Wiley bird made its escape.
Sometimes its not about killing the bird!!

One last crack at the ducks last night. A fair few of them sporting blue bills. Is it a hybrid of some sort?
Waiting for some fine weather before we go after the wily rooster.
greylard I think..or eclipse plumage....

Oh well, still fun to shoot and tasty to eat.
Greylards. Pure greys have nil white speculum on the wings.

Son and I got 5 Saturday, 3 Sunday morning, and 7 on our last day of the season - Monday. Pic shows what it's all about.
Had a rooster dead to rights at 20 metres, but dogs were on the other side of the knob, so couldn't safely shoot. I saw where it went, and got my son to follow it up. Bugger me if he had exactly the same thing happen. Is this the newest technique from pheasants to try and get rid of dogs??
Anyway. Pic of Mondays haul. Fattest ducks we have had for years this season.
Everyone is entitled to their own stupid opinion

@stagstalker
that wouldn't be public land near Tokomaru would it? those cabbage trees look a lot like the ones I was sitting under not that long ago
Went out last night looking for a rooster, and just ended up with a limit of parries.
Maybe next time.
A solo duck flew off the pond. Paddocks have been grazed so might try up there tonight if I finish work early enough.
Bo on the retrieve.
