Not a lot of hunting this season, but nice to finish it off with a couple of BOP quail.

Stick a fork in it, the season is done. One last rooster for Dash.

I just treat it like tasty, slightly dry chicken.
Mostly I schnitzel the breasts, coat in panko and very lightly fry them.
Greener came out for last two days of the Season.Attachment 232375
There is almost no public land pheasant hunting in the North Island, but a permit for Kaiangiroa is easy to get, and I hunt on a handful of local farms also.
Good evening gents on our duck shooting eve for 2024.

Only pond left that they won't belly out on the landing.

Big pond that i shot on for 28 years has been sold so will try our half empty pond.
The other night shoot pond is dry.

Bugger about the lack of water. Down to the river? Good luck for tomorrow.

Right now it is perfect for the duck shooters down on the Kaipara river with shot guns blasting away but when that mist lifts it will be a different story.

Eight for the morning here in Hawkes Bay. Definitely down on other years.
Kids still love it though and the bismuth is so expensive that I am probably fortunate we weren't inundated with ducks :ORLY:
I used to love opening day when I was meat hunting. I knew all of the cockies would be busy in their mai mai’s … :)
:D
Very cunning.
I'm not very old in the scheme of things but even in my lifetime in this district that I shoot went from hearing multiple shooters around the place, getting fewer each year to absolutely zero this opening.
Seems to be a dying hobby in a few places.
Sad really because it is a very easy way to introduce kids to the outdoors as you can often bring plenty of gear and it usually isn't too strenuous.
