Game Bird Hunting with a bow

    Hi Guys,
Some of you will have seen a recent post I made about receiving sponsorship from a bow hunting company and as we have talked more they have mentioned that they would love for things to turn towards a filming direction into the near future. I believe that a great thing to have on film would be if I could harvest some game birds with a bow. I have been looking into it here in Australia and we pretty much have no options for it legally. I was wondering if it were legal in NZ to take either pheasants, canadians or Turkeys with a bow and whether there is any red tape that I'd have to go through.
I wouldn't be trying to get on to anyone's secret hunting land either but I'd be looking at coming over next year to do it and would really appreciate if anyone would be happy to take me out chasing them as long as its legal. You would be on film and semi famous if that helps entice anyone haha

    Cheers,
    Jack

Turkeys Im sure you can but I think its iilegal for gamebirds such as pheasants and ducks. Geese I think you may be ok there.

Turkeys are plenty easy to smack, shot a couple on the lawn, geese would also be very doable. Peacocks would be a good one two. As for pheasants etc i dont no what the rules are? cant see any problem if they are flying but might loose a few arrows. Magies are always a challenge to put the stalk on. Quite a few options really

If you have a clay target thrower try setting it up so it flings clays into a bank and have a crack at shooting them in the air, my mate has hit two in a row and looks impressive on film

    That is pretty sweet man!
I'd be looking to get another compound off these guys with relatively low poundage around 50lbs and use flu flu arrows with it reckon that'd be mint.
Would you be keen to do some hunting with the bow chasing some birds? It wouldn't be just me hunting it'd be good to have you smacking a few as well as any mates you have that are into it. Any of those ones you mentioned would be awesome, especially the turkeys and geese, maggies would go down a treat too haha They're protected here

yeh bro all of the above species can be easily harvested on our home farm
geese would be a challenge but easy enough, im sure we could get some decoying in then popping them just before they touch down, or else just put a stalk in on a mob already in the paddock, plenty of options

Cheers uplander, I was guessing that would probably be the case.

Perazzi that sounds good mate, I'm hoping this new gig will open up a few windows for a bit of hunting land here, we are respectful hunters and I'm hoping with a video camera and a legitimate website/business people will be less inclined to say no. If that's the case could get some good stuff and then might be able to hit up some of that stuff in your email when you head over.

You might get more offers if you retract your "being on video" statement

Anything not on the game bird schedule is OK with a bow. Never mind the turkeys and peacocks, Canadas on the wing with a bow! Or even better, pigeons on the wing with a bow

    Thanks guys,
Pointer, if I can't hit em on the wing wanna hold them for me and I'll shoot em out of your hands?

VC I thought you kiwis had big egos and small appendages, although the latter is probably why you'd tend to stay off the camera
