For a few weeks now i have been observing a pond from a distance and learnt that from 7.30am till about 10.30am there will be ducks landing in a certain area of the pond and they wont circle they will just cup there wings and dive similar to a Jap fighter plane.
After some investigating i found out who owned the pond and asked him if i could shoot it on the last weekend, to which he said "get into it" and we did.
Left home this morning with Scotty at 7.20am and arrived at the pond at 7.25am
We quickly drove around the side of the pond and in the low light we could make out several hundred Teal and a few Mallies, so as quick as a Hare in the spot light we set our gear up roughly were i thought was spot x and parked the truck.
Well it didn't take long before the ducks started streaming in and like predicted and observed they just folded the wings out and dive bombed us.
We were loving this new spot and by 10am were ready to go home with limit bags.
We put the stalk on a couple of swans up the top end but they were to far out for any shots to be effective on them so we left them, later on in the morning we had about 12 Canadians wanting to come in but with no Deks of that species and no caller either they eventually flew off into the distance.
There was a number of spoonies about as well but they all survived to live another day.
Here are some pics, unfortunately they are from my cell phone or point and shoot but you get the idea.
Rock on 2013.
Yeah we shot the Hares too, a mixed bag.
