    gun question

Every year I hear people say they are going to get a new gun for the next season etc etc.

Ive just read a post (New seasons toys )
How many are you are going to get a new gun.
and what are your reasons for wanting a new one. Are you passing the old one down to a son ??? etc etc.
Just seems every year all I hear is people buying new ones?

I got a new one 3 years ago due 2 my dirty old Bikal kikking me to much ..and it served me well since i was very short...dont think Ill ever need a new one now, unless somthing craps out that cannot be replaced...

Is it just a keep up with the jonses or ???

Most would be better off spending a 1/4 of a gun on a $800 labrodor or 10 ft tinnie ..

I've worn mine out. But I don't buy flash shit anyway, was shooting beside someone that always has the latest, as usual he shot no more than me.

I bought a new to me very second hand semi 17 months ago. It is ugly with the camo coming off, had a huge amount of use, but it works great and can't see me upgrading any time soon. It does what I want and I like it.

I like new toys! I don't buy a new one every year but if I had the cash I probably would.
Just human nature I guess, same reason a new car is awesome for 3 months until you get over it and then other cars start looking more interesting!

What people do with their money is their business you shouldnt be judged because you can buy a new beretta or benelli just like you shouldnt be judged for buying a second hand escort. People will buy what makes them happy. We all work hard for our $$$. Do with it what you want and stop worrying about others.

I worked slowly over a few years to my Extrema It's now two or three years old like brand new no reason to change now for shotgun shooting
Have also sold off a lot of guns that were either not good or not used so most of mine are keepers now. Don't need or want anything there really?

I will most likely buy another good U/O 12g purely for shooting sporting clays. I also have discovered the big boys mecano that is AR15s so have a few of them in various stages of completion.
Can't see me getting anything else, unless of course they make ARs too difficult to own in which case they might all get sold and replaced with something that can shoot a bit further.

Whilst I'm not obsessive, I own a few firearms. I shoot most of them and when describing them to the Mrs, none of them 'overlap'. Why do I buy new guns? I like to own guns, the idea of using different calibres for specific usage appeals to me. I shoot bunnies with 12ga, 20ga, .22, .17, .17hmr, .204, .223. Bigger stuff with .243 & .308. Right now im trying to justify in my head that a full stock .222 would be way cool and do some open sight hunting. On the other hand, some are classics that are a pleasure to own, clean and shoot, real beautiful bits of machinery and craftsmanship . Practically- I always duck shoot with a spare semi just in case a mate has an issue - which has many a time over the years ... or someone drops in for an evening shoot. I also find it hard to sell firearms as each one has fabulous memories.
    Okay ... I'm obsessive!!

What learning have i missed out on ?

I talking about upgreading a Baikal shotgun in a gamebird thread.
how am I going to miss out on learning by owning a long range target gun.

And the only reason for it is the 400m + rabbits and hairs in an orchard i do pest control for...

Maybe I was too subtle ... shotgun or rifle is irrelevant as you were asking about a decisioning process and justification ... buy a new firearm or don't - no one really cares ... someone tell me how to delete my post ...
