Thread: How to seal a duck pond?

Any tips on how to seal a duck pond
Pond was previously held a little water and was in a pastoral area. It was fenced off and planted and has not really held water since. The soil is pumice with no clay or silt content.
Any tips to help seal the pond without lining with plastic.

Plastic roll 4m wide 25 long is around $110 for comparison

If you fenced the pond off and weighed the plastic down with stones around the edge it could work and less likely to puncture due to stock hooves

Came across this pic for edging designs if it helps

Feed hay out to some cattle in there
They will stomp it in and seal it works a treat

I don't know the size of this pond but plastic can be cheaper than clay sometimes

aglime could well help too....cheap as chips.back the fert truck up and spin on a truck load...5ton.....
load of clay spread around would seal it right up....

bentonight (spelling) you pour it along the wall to seal it. Never seen it done or used it.

Wait until Winter. Ice forms an excellent seal. It even expands a little as it freezes, pushing out at the sides.

Yea a bit worried about cost. The other issue I see with plastic it's once there it's a hole it could be stuffed.

Had a good dump this week. About 90 days since that was grazed. Plumbed in some water to try and make some mud

It looks great with that planting hopefully you Can get that water to stay in it over the next few years.

you must be getting rain to full it by the looks of that green grass

Lime spread, plus hay and cows. Job done
