    Kapiti Wellington Region Duck Shooting

Hi, new to the forum and new to the Kapiti region. Have moved up from the far south and am a keen duck shooter. Wanting to know if anyone has any advice on where to try a peg a maimai and hunt this upcoming season. Also whether a dingy is needed for said spots? Got all the gear and nowhere to hunt, any info will be a huge help!

Go into your local licencing agent and ask for ‘Game Bird Hunting Access Permit’
You can find your nearest agent here... Wellington hunting licence agents | Wellington

Or go to any of the ponds along Kapiti road and try your luck

you might struggle for a spot even at this stage of the year thier are spots for juniors in the foxton area ask fish and game about the other ballots there.
also maybe join up with the foxton waterfowlers and attend thier clay shoots.

From memory the first 100 people to buy the $5 fish & game permits are entitled to a stand on Lake Wairarapa. Also contained in that permit are some other spots as well. Your best bet would be to scout out some of the local rivers observe the flight lines etc

    since when??/
most stands on lake wai are long held and hardly ever available untill after opening weekend.
you could coffin/layout blind a spot however as long as your not interferring with someone elses shooting and obey the 90 metre rule.

Lower Manawatu River for a walk up, Whirokino Road access you are probably too late for the ballot at Tangimoana. I used to shoot at the Lands & Survey Farm out past the Spy Base back in the day, balloted.
