On Friday, saw a rooster with two hens...I yelled at him saying go make babies you gaudy bird...:D
Gave the dog a run on Saturday wanting to see him run some open country... on the first cast less than 100m he stopped.... boom a rooster flushes after a bit of roading...
off I cast the dog again, bam on point again... bit of roading and second rooster up and away...
F@-k my life...

If that's not enough, I've been seeing the cocks all over the place... open green paddocks... gravel roads.... State highway 1, state highway 2... a road-kill hen on SH17....
I'm not even kidding...

While I am at it. 3 weeks ago I went for a walk to a local park where I find some pheasants every now and then only to find its been bombed with rat/possum poison, so I drove another 10 mins to a cut-over I use to visit some 2-3 years ago... barely had any enthusiasm to walk after a mild hangover...
Small covey of 3 brown quails off the beaten track...... GGGGGRRRRRRRRR

Saving them for the pond in May Dundee?
Yesterday on a run at local river bank (not in nesting area) the dogs pointed a rooster, treed a cat, and afterward just as I had loaded them into the car to drive off home a quail wandered across the track no more than 20ft away. The day before when I took them for a run at the Maitai I had to walk up the road a short way to go under the bridge onto the walkway to the paddocks and there were near a dozen quail in the garden of a house. Dogs were most impressed.
Didn't have gun with me and cat got to top of tree. Sadly.
Pukeko got the blame in another thread but the prick only got one.
