Looking for a possible new hunting spot and just wondering if there are un used maimais in the area before i go and have a look.

Give Fish & Game a call. If you talk to one of the gamebird staff (often hunters themselves) I'm sure they'd give you some useful information before you chuck a canoe in the water.

Used to shoot on the harbour in a maimai. Caught more flounder in the net than ducks shot. You can walk around the Pukehina side of the wetlands and jump shoot in the marshes. Stay away from the houses and boardwalk though.

That little harbour is the most polluted bit of water in the region. On the outgoing tide the canals are literally drains of cow shit. There is a permanent health warning on the taking of shellfish from the place. Plenty of ducks on the southern side also
