Hi I saw on the gamebird licence booklet a mention of the Makerua swamp as a public hunting spot. Considering I live close by to Makerua I wouldnt mind giving it a crack.
The only thing is I'm not sure where thw swamp is exactly and how to access it.
If someone can point me on the right direction that would be great thanks

along same vein I noticed wainono..which is a doc controlled bit of public land/hunting area ISNT on nztopo50 as such....
Definitely pop in to Fish and Game in Palmy and just check, a call to the Manawatu Doc office wouldn't hurt, just to cover your bases.

Wams will serve you well in any outdoor recreation research, the site allows overlays for paper roads and public land as well as topo maps and satellite images.
the photo is from a Spot gamebird book, it's about 20 years old but will be a good starting place.

Did you end up going to Makerua swamp?
A couple of friends and I went recently, its a solid 45min to 1hr walk in/out to where we set up, but we got 4 ducks and had a few flights of ducks interested so it was worth it.
