Im seriously thinking of doing a trip down south to the march Molesworth shoot, who else is keen for a trip away
Is it a goose shoot Z ?
yep, canada geese
Will you use your cockers down there
not sure, depends on whether im flying or driving down, but my male cocker can retrieve geese
If youre flying it would sure be wise to team up with a few to pay gas and ferry crossing or take out a mortgage to do the trip !!!! LOL\
How hard is it or costly is it to fly with a dog in NZ ??
nice one. Right in the roar time. wear some orange.
I've been shooting the Rainbow, Molesworth, St James area for 20 yrs for geese and animals
Was in there last week
You wont see anyone with a rifle where birds are shot in March or any other time of the year except certain areas of St James and they shoot like shit anyway.
Leave the dog at home, there is only a couple of spots that warrant one, and then you have a boat in the party anyway
that cocker does a fair bit of flying when retrieving geese.
On a serious note I'm effing keen to get down there. Shoota, you can bring your dog too as it makes carrying geese so much lighter when theres only some wings, legs and a head to carry. :ORLY:
:wtfsmilie: Squeak???? Bro!
Keep in mind boys that the march shoot is nothing like the october one as in october you have all the birds in the high country for nesting.
e.g. in october 2010 a block shot 200.
In march I shot it and we shot 29
the guys in June got similar numbers.
and in october 2012 it shot 100+
You can still get some good numbers on blocks in march but the shooting is totally different. Also not all blocks shoot 100+, as with all hunting you only hear the good stories.
But it's a great area so I would still encourage you to come along. Don't forget your goose call.
October it is then, lets hope southern hospitality is as good as they say and the northern boys can get a good block...beg, plead
Its done via lucky dip now - the days of being in the 'clique' are gone, which is good as it gives everyone a chance at the better blocks.
We've gone in a week before hand and shoot the shit out of the primo blocks that the clique always used to get when we were balloted off :D - Fuckem, never saw them miss out or get a tent block in winter in over 20 yrs
The spots that have been shit in the past are not regularly shot now, and a few places which have been great shooters aren't shot either which is a shame, but in knowing that, you can head in with a few mates and clean up
Air New Zealand changed their rules for transporting animals at the start of October. You now need a better cage than before, small ones are about $120 plus.
The NZ dog trial team found this out on the way back from Aussie. They went over in September with old cages sweet as, Went to come back "Sorry boys those cages aren't up to scratch you'll need to buy these ones to get your dogs back". Some very pissed off fellas apparently.
And from memory it is either $50 or $100 for the extra item
