I don't see P&S Trials as the 'be all, and end all' of evaluating the abilities of a Versatile. But I do expect to be able to front up, demonstrate good ability and not embarrass ourselves though. The Live Game element of the P&S Trials is what I sought specifically, as I believe it was the next step up from the Intermediate level of assessment available from the NZVHDTA system, in terms of bird work. If a higher level of assessment was available in the NZVHDTA, then I probably wouldn't have run.
I am reasonably happy with what we achieved in just one Trial season and I saw that Versatiles can comfortably match it with the specialist breeds.
I will return to P&S at some point, but not until I get my next pup. In the meantime, I'm having a lot of fun with a Spaniel and have another pup on the way soon, so will be involved in those Live Game Trials instead.
