so ive had a crack at a mix of painting and flocking

Im about 80% done, ive beaks and 2nd head flock and finishing off, plus touch ups.

Its been a good project, im thinking that reflocking this amount would be extremely time consuming and costly. Ive found a group in Hamilton i think that have flocking material at a very reasonable price, WAY more reasonable than some sports outlets, however after doing some research online im unsure if its the same material that is available in the states. Ive flocked the drakes heads, two of the more finished drakes ive flocked twice and use a bit of black paint on the heads, im happy with the look so far!

what i plan to do next is the touch ups that will give a little more depth to the decoys, it will also give a bit of variance within the decoys.

@FatLabrador thanks, i really wanted to flock the entire bodies but these took long enough to do, being ADHD i soon see something else shiny and get distracted, its the bloody magpie in me i blame!

No ive never used Flocked decoys before....this is going to be an interesting test!!!

Here is some pics of mine. Just finishing touches to go. I have not done any flocking yet as I’ve simply run out of time before opening.

ive reflocked the heads a second time and just done the white feathers around the neck. Im going to go over the back of the neck, the top of the heads and cheeks with black paint but as lightly as i can, the flocking will come off just a little but there are a couple of the heads that i have done in one of the photos above that don't look too bad!

id have to say the assorted results are flocking flocking marvellous.!
I use wee testpots ,artists acrylics recycled paint .half the fun is in smartenin the buggers up .i always find a couple of ales releases the picasso in me!
In fact i saw a mallard just recently that possibly was sired by a taubmans paint chart it had so many colours.i had a couple of beers(as one does pondering lifes great mysteries) then discovers it had even more colours.
its neck reminded me me of that ring tail abberation you d see on the occasional possum!

Here's a question @Tertle @Nathan F the new decoys avery have with flocking on the drakes head are you able to paint over the flocking? or dull flocking. I don't know much about flocking all i know is all these drakes you see with nice green heads don't match up with any around here. Most of my ducks i shoot a more greys or grey x mallards. See the odd real green head but not a lot. thanks

@bigbear I see no reason why not

all you need to do is find a paint matching the flocking colour that your intending to use, paint and flock, let it set, paint and flock again, boom new colour!

i wouldn't even bother trying to remove old flocking as this already has a good purchase on the plastic, simply paint, dust on the flocking let it set, repeat the process and you should be away laughing
