    Opening day traditions

Thought it would be interesting to find out who does what in the way of traditions or rituals for opening day.
For myself, I shoot on a property down Ashburton way. It's an hour or so from home but the tradition is to stay in the framers wool shed the night before.
We've been offered beds in the farmers house but we always choose the wool shed instead. It's bloody freezing but it really kicks the excitement levels into top gear.

    What do you guys do?

Well, over the next weekend or two I shall start the ball rolling by making at least four of my gun cakes to share around...have to buy a new hi-viz bell collar for my dog as it no longer fits him as good as it could...I cannot wait...

And hope I can put it back together bfore the morning.
Also got a habit of setting my decoys up a bit early.
Like too sit on the night pond with a camera bfore opening and watch the birds cum in.

Opening day traditions? Every opening I set heaps of decoys, and constantly blow on my caller More in the spirit of what you were meaning it is becomming a tradition to take the boy out of school on Friday and set up camp for the weekend.

I shoot ducks every opening day. Traditionally.

Pointer, that is usually my idea as well...goodness knows what the numbers around here will be like this year...the gaudy ones will probably have better webbed feet than the webbed footed ones...

I learnt a lesson on opening morning some years ago...if there are three guys on the mai mai balcony waiting for daylight and are passing a bottle of port...don't be the one in the middle.
