I have just finished cleaning my gear from a long opening weekend. This was easily my best opening by far as we shot our limit on both Saturday and Sunday with some slower but still very satisfying shooting on Monday and Tuesday. I have never been involved in shooting big numbers as most of my duck shooting is done on public water so this was pretty damn awesome.
During the pre season we made upgrades to the setup of our maimai to improve concealment and user friendliness. This worked great and combined with some much better shooting discipline in the team and a refined calling regime and decoy setup we managed to have the best and most decoying birds I’ve ever had the privilege of shooting. As you can tell I am still fizzing, I even managed to finally shoot my first banded bird in the lower north island. Our spot involves a decent amount of work to access, setup and shoot from so getting the rewards from that work was super satisfying. I hope everyone had a great weekend, be it on the birds or just enjoying company with family and friends.
