I thought Fed Farmers lobied to take them off the schedule as a big f you to fish and game over the dirty dairy campaign.

Crazy numbers in the Rangitikei now. 400 - 600 get shot at Lake Waipu every duck season but that doesn’t really make a dent. We have the odd decent shoot on the paddocks but it’s a drop in the ocean.
Culling at moulting time or poisoning is really the only solution once they get that bad.
A huge amount get poisoned in the far north using grass grub insecticide.

Oops pest status?the onlynreal solution is co,operation and a return to maybe phased back In game bird status.while still allowing farmers the tax breaks to deal legally with them.No.poison is legal for use on geese.forn116 buks a year it,have to include management of Canada's for mine

game bird status why -- then you would have to pay fish and game a fee to shoot them-- now you can shoot them for free - any where anytime with any calibre why would anyone want to go back to paying - farmers need to be at the forefront of control - they are the ones effected -if the jobs to big then they ask Regional Councils to step up supported by Federated Farmers - DOC well enough said

The problem for Farmers in controlling them is that they spend most of their time not on their property, turning up in large numbers, sometimes at night to destroy crops and new grass. It will take a coordinated approach from Farmers, Councils and Central Government to reduce numbers to a sustainable level.

you are dead right who is willing to spend the money - Fish and Game dont have it - Federated Farmers dont have it - Councils well I have had a long background with those - sit at a table with local Regional council and one is looking at farmers and they wont agree to much that will cost their fellow farmers money - the problem has to be bad and getting worse - they all got it together for TB control so they can do it - to some extent they are working on wallabys - can be done - in the mean time shoot - and if you are struggling to find somewhere to go contact your local Federated Farmers reps - they may well have info and farming mates with problems
