Funny the talk of Canadas and their antisocial habits-
I saw a mob of approx 20 in flight today and Id bet my left proverbial I know exactly where the huas are hoochied up and its a well known CHCH site .
CCCwont take any action as its in a rec area.no Im not going to reveal till I get a chance to eye ball mk1 the bloody site and all going well see if I can guage the size of the population.
Thought Trump had put tariffs on this lot![]()
It's all fun and games till Darthvader comes along
I respect your beliefs but don't impose them on me.
Crazy numbers in the Rangitikei now. 400 - 600 get shot at Lake Waipu every duck season but that doesn’t really make a dent. We have the odd decent shoot on the paddocks but it’s a drop in the ocean.
Culling at moulting time or poisoning is really the only solution once they get that bad.
A huge amount get poisoned in the far north using grass grub insecticide.
Oops pest status?the onlynreal solution is co,operation and a return to maybe phased back In game bird status.while still allowing farmers the tax breaks to deal legally with them.No.poison is legal for use on geese.forn116 buks a year it,have to include management of Canada's for mine

game bird status why -- then you would have to pay fish and game a fee to shoot them-- now you can shoot them for free - any where anytime with any calibre why would anyone want to go back to paying - farmers need to be at the forefront of control - they are the ones effected -if the jobs to big then they ask Regional Councils to step up supported by Federated Farmers - DOC well enough said
The problem for Farmers in controlling them is that they spend most of their time not on their property, turning up in large numbers, sometimes at night to destroy crops and new grass. It will take a coordinated approach from Farmers, Councils and Central Government to reduce numbers to a sustainable level.
If my work annoys me, I cull them
you are dead right who is willing to spend the money - Fish and Game dont have it - Federated Farmers dont have it - Councils well I have had a long background with those - sit at a table with local Regional council and one is looking at farmers and they wont agree to much that will cost their fellow farmers money - the problem has to be bad and getting worse - they all got it together for TB control so they can do it - to some extent they are working on wallabys - can be done - in the mean time shoot - and if you are struggling to find somewhere to go contact your local Federated Farmers reps - they may well have info and farming mates with problems
ANd how's that worked for you?? it's made the geese harder to hunt in numbers and severely paranoid as every idiot with a rifle and nothing better to do blasts one or two educating hundreds at the same time.Co,operation and letting bygones be bygones are the only real thing to do??the rediculousness of the worlds greatest waterfowl being only a pest is stupid wasteful and self defeating in this rewilding push .

yes but gsp follower it may well be a great gamebird in its natural country - that all goes out the door when you introduce it here - those rules no longer apply and we have to deal with its breeding rate and impact in what is a foreign country for it to be in - and one would have to say its found NZ very favorable indeed - no predators- no harsh winters - paradise for a goose and now a problem
Ok that’s what pisses me about non professional hunters, we are all a bunch idiots that only educate game.
That’s a self interest prophecy to protect their jobs, natural reaction. I understand. Selling this bullshit is not getting the job done. There is scope for a broad approach, that benefits all.
Let the Farmer decide whether an individual has a few clues, i.e PCP thermal, night vision the birds can be taken quietly with realising what’s going on, zero educating if it’s done right.
This Country has become so paranoid about risk management & the legal implications, that decent folk, might as well not get out bed!
Federated Farmers is also welcoming confirmation that landowners will not be liable if someone is injured on their land while doing recreation or adventure activities.
Instead, health and safety responsibility will lie with those running such activities and participating in them.
“Workplace Relations and Safety Minister Brooke van Velden is right when she says uncertainty and scope creep has led to some farmers refusing access for such activities out of concern around their legal liability,” Birkett says.
“One big downside of that has been some reluctance to allow farm access to recreational hunters, despite growing numbers of feral pest animals across New Zealand.
“Changing the regulations so that health and safety is the personal responsibility of hunters, not the owner of the land they’re on, will be a boost to keeping deer, pig, goat and possum numbers down.
this recently farmers dont have to bear the brunt so long as they identify hazards they in the clear
Ah...that feels better, just been for a leak. Just abit of banter, with me kowing full well that you spend more than most people out there doing your bit. I'm fortunate that i don't need to jump through as many hoops, get different permits etc as you do to shoot my quota. Keep it up
