Taupo Upland-not Kaiangaroa??

Hi All

Looks like I'm going to be in taupo this weekend, I was hoping to go for a walk after some birds somewhere and since the trip is short notice I haven't had time to sort a Kaiangaroa Permit, anyone have any suggestions where else? Would prefer upland but even somewhere worth a look for a duck, otherwise I'll be spending all weekend at the inlaws..
