    traditions

Funny how as the years roll onwards we pick up little idiosyncrasies that just sort of stick...
My Bro in law gets the blame if decoys end up with shot holes.
Any smelly farts get blamed on the long dead dog.
My good long suffering wife bakes us a beautiful meatdish sized bacon and egg pie for us all to share on first night...now a few years back a really good fella came along and shot with us,he has been home in Sweden for 6 long years but he still gets blamed for eating all the pie...miss him often a hell of a nice bloke to ride the river with.Name: The Pie Thief.jpg

Tradition here was a "young farmers" pre season clay bird shoot and also 3 or 4 clay shoots on a farm for wildfowlers assn along with bbq. These are good social events with youngsters included under close supervision; in fact part of rural life in NZ for over a century; and about to be undermined by woke bias and cretinous repression.
Oh yeah, we can all go cycling, play compuer games or grow dope and get into wearable art ay; ffs !

Have been shooting the same pond opening weekend for 4 seasons now with the same bunch of blokes.....unfortunately it may be the last season due to changing farm management.....
We all sleep over at the same fellas house, someone always gets blamed for blocking the inside toilet with a monster shit
Always buy a bottle of Wine for our hosts wife, gotta keep her sweet.
Same guy always gets blamed for shooting the Parrie floating decoy that was shot in the first season
Sunday Afternoon is for breasting out shit tonnes of ducks.
There's always one guy who rates himself as the best water-fouler the planet has seen and claims every bird shot as his.
Then the guy who is obviously quite deaf and shouts instead of talking.....can only take so much of him.
The guy who shows up late and strolls into the blinds while ducks are dropping in.....usually the same guy that has to leave early and avoids the clean up and butchering.
Then there is the guy who was caught watching redtube or pornhub on his phone between mobs of ducks
The inevitable fight over who gets to be on either end of the blind set ups.
Anytime someone leaves the blinds it is inevitable that their layout blind will be raided for snacks and filled with empty shells.
I'm sure there's more but always good banter and lots of gunpowder unloaded

Its a smallish community, everyone knows everyone else....wouldnt be too difficult to find out as long as it was recently. ring one of the locals and ask LOL.
woken now from deep sleep, its 11;20 and wind fair going nuts outside....could be interesting day shooting if this sticks around.....the paddling bit first might be more interesting still!!!!

well I certainly got my moneys worth of paddling, the NW wind got rather intense while I was out in open water, spent a tireing half hour "ferry gliding " back to safer waters, then still had long paddle back to maimai...well actually our never fail maimai has been changed around and looks to have been deserted for season or two..... so we set up in the long grass...but the ducks just werent playing the game...IF BIL had been on the ball he shouldve had a few spoonies first up and a couple of geese later on..but sadly no shots went off from him...I paddled down and finished off a wounded parrie, missed a couple of pigeons ....tight chokes and #3 steel isnt ideal is my excuse...... but yeah was nearly a down trow day...still we had a ball.... we packed up at 4;30 and had tense few minutes as started to paddle home till got into lee of shore....Meg had good snooze in the tall grass and took to sitting in passenger seat of my kayak like a trooper, her first time in the wee boat,I was wrapped she sat still and didnt move at all. got a couple of wet shotguns to clean, salty water means I will give quick whipe down tonight and redo them tomorrow.
my arms are a tad tired now...silly boy pushing it so hard...but dont regret it at all....we had a good day out .

Good on the pooch for sitting still in the boat! Can really stuff the balance process up if they want to become 'involved' in the paddling

Pegged this morning and cleaned up windthrow around my wee boat harbour. Then home to give my shotgun a thorough dismantle and prep for this season. This gun is a Beretta S2 which was salvaged from a wrecked Italian truck WW2 in the Libya desert by one of our soldier, then brought back to NZ. I refurbished it and use it with bismuth #4's. Shootsimits even at 83 years old; just a little older than I
Looking forward to May 6th, both dog and I.
