What load best for geese?
What load best for geese?
I know a lot but it seems less every day...
600 nitro express pretty good saves on any clean up - on a more serious note no 2 shot seemed pretty good last time we shot

yeh thier niumbers are rebouding but you,ve definatly put a whole in them between yo uguys and my mate at the farm near the lake .
i used to get bent out of shape about all that wasted meat but since you cant even bury them on a farm now and everybodies so over the top about food safety. ive had to mellow still i dont shoot more than i can use but i get now someone has to.
I like 36-40 g lead 2s on geese but anything near about will work, especially when they're close or you're smoking them in the head/neck region.
What we shot would have been max 1/4 of what we saw in the air on the day @gsp follower, definitely plenty around (some would say plague proportions). And remember they say about 4 geese eat a sheep's worth of grass in a day so that many bird would have been having a massive impact. And I bet you they will be back on that grass again by Friday. I do take some of the breasts to eat personally but this is more about keeping them off the paddock/grass.
75/15/10 black powder matters
sat out on verandah this morning in New Plymouth suburb and watched a flight of at least 80 to 100 land just south of New Plymouth area - no lack of them- Taranaki duck shooters just don't seem interested in targeting them
havcing shot with GSPF for over 15yrs now ive got a couple of pet loads .from Hull ammo 3" 34gm solway magnum 3s nothing withstands the impact of that load in range!
In 2 3/4 which i use on feral geese 3-4 32gm are Ok generally catch the dozy buggers asleep or very close up. ducks the same .find a load you like get bused to it stick with with.its the workman not the tools!
if i were a one load man it,d be the 12 cauge falcon 40 gram lead load in 2.s s a bit tough on the close ones but it,l kill the rest as far as you can put the pattern on them. In steel im using 3 inch rem nitro 2 and 3 inch eley steel 2. were i decoying them on water id probaly just use a fast 32 gram steel load backed up by rems/eley 3inchers. i know people who shoot them with steel 4,s out of open chokes in big numbers when decoying but im not that goods o i,ll stick to what works for me.TO be honest i shot tons more geese with the 20 ;gauge and 32 gram lead 2,s and 3,s decoying or pass shooting over water but alas those days like nz cricket dignity is past
listen to this man I can testify to it -manys the canadian goose domestic squabble that was resolved by a rotund 20g toting muttering sherriff! his other famous trick was a goose call he does which frankly would give an aoemeba a hard on-manys the distant goose Ive seen turn back toward him in response to his plaintive tones only to find a 20g shotgun round terminating the love life permanently. i kid you not.
