    Whangamarino wetland duck hunting banned

Does anybody know anymore about this? Looks like Tainui is stopping duck hunting in the Whangamarino wetlands and is looking for help to enforce it? First I have heard of something like this happening. Was in the news today.

Reading the article it states that iwi understand that its a symbolic gesture and not legally enforceable. It will be interesting to see how duck hunters go on opening morning heading out to and shooting on their maimais, and if there is any individuals there trying to stop them legally doing so. Could make for some interesting 'conversations' on the roadside and wetland entrance points.

How can anyone stop duck shooting if the shooter has valid permits, and a game license. I thought Whangamarino was part of the DOC estate but is managed by F&G and is not owned or administered by Tainui? Also Rahui are not legally enforceable (except under the fisheries Act which does not apply here).

Redaing that, I woul dnot realy want to eat any birds that have been landing in 'discharge' like that ....reads more like a health issue than a anti hunting one...

My pond has nice water but looks like a waste land. No reeds, no willow weed nothng. There is not a feather in it. I think I will be shooting else where this year.

I suppose at least it has water this year. Small wins I guess.

We have seen signs of birds in ours and actually have water this year which is nice no need for the black tarp
