I don't have an issue around the way he's supporting the fish, well supported and close to the water good job there. The survival rate on that fish will not be in jeopardy at all. The issue is about how long the fish was played, and the level of fatigued it's at when landed. In this case an acceptable time for a good recovery rate and yes it should be supported and rested before returning it.

So I asked my boy for details,as I did not witness the catch.He reckons it was about 7-8 minutes,before netting fish.Reckons it was out of the water for less than a minute,for the photo.Held and rested,using the fish recovery technique to get water through the gills,and only let it go when it used its own power.I reckon he did it allright!I asked him about the injury by the tail,he reckons it was a previous snagging injury,he said his was a clean hook in the mouth.
