    Advice on Importing a Boat..

    Hey guys

I am looking at bringing a boat in from South Africa for two reasons, firstly because the specific design I am after is not available here and secondly it will cost about a third of something similar here.

This is the one specifically I am looking at: Mallards 4.8m Cobra Cat - Koffiefontein - Boats - Aviation

My questions for you guys are has anyone on here done it and what are the pitfalls? Thinking customs, MAF and GST implications?

    Any advice is appreciated!

    Cheers!

You don't get nothing in a boat for under 15 k really . Especially twin Yamahas ! . Hard to say how much it be worth as nothing much in twin hull out there .

If you can't fit something in a standard container shape then expect it to cost far more than you think.

Yep, should go in a 20ft container no worries.

Well in that case probably all you will need is a cert from the SA end saying its been cleaned and fumigated and then budget to have to do exactly the same again at this end.

Just need to fill the rest of container with something else that you can flick on and pay for the shipping ?

    Was it a licencing issue?

Yeah it would come on the trailer as it is designed for loading the boat off the beach rather than off a slipway or out the water which is the reason for getting it as the Whananaki estuary is a pain in the arse to try and get up and down even at high tide, just gonna slide it up the beach and load from there!
