there is no point drifting with burly in my opinion as you are always moving away from the trail

having said that as gibo says i also find they work OK on anchor as long as theres some current (not too much just a little) i cast a softy out into the the burly trail and put it in the rod holder and let the swell/chop work the lure while im bait fishing
9 times out of 10 it will get garbed

if your going to anchor and burley dont bother with soft baits, they need to be worked to get best effect which is tedious and non productive at anchor
go back to strip baits and flick the bait runner on

It is not offensive, unless one is a racist pig.

Yep i never realy "fish" soft baits at anchor however as per my last post if theres one set up on the boat already to go ill chuck it in the rod holder and quite often get a fish or two on it but i never anchor with the intention of fishing soft bait
Drifting is the way to go when fishing any lure/jig/ slow jig soft bait... the only time i fish bait on the drift is deep drops for kings all my bait fishing for snapper is done at anchor

    yea man i agree

if you got a good berley trail you can pull tons of kahawai out of if off the surface using softbaits if the snapper are slow to come on

So I handed over a wad of cash today.
Nothing like a bit of retail therapy.

Spooled with 10pound 8 strand and got some 20p flourocarbon for trace.

Got a heap of baits in the mail box thanks to @stingray so I am ready to go as soon as I can teach myself to tie a PR knot.

How far ahead do you guys usually cast?
I tied a 1oz hook hook to the braid and gave it a flick at work and it went about 4 times further than I was expecting and instead of landing in the carpark next door it went over the apex of the roof of the big building before i shut the bail!!

Caught the gutter on the retreive and just like that I had lost my first hook without even wetting a line.

Don't think I have seen a baitrunner type reel used for SB fishing before.
PR is a goody, but I find a back to back uni knot does the job for me.

The idea being it is useful for more than just soft baiting.
