    Awesome surprise

Had one out the box happen to me today, have taken an interest in fly fishing up again and had been telling a guy I'd helped out about it. Today he arrives with a collection of some awesome rods and reels to show me and then says this rod and reel will set you up and gave me the below, I said can't do that I'll have to pay you something! He replied he thought he was still on the winning side. I'm rapped! Can't wait for Taupo next weekend!

Hardy's were once the kings of the fly fishing world. Their reels were finest english engineering and their rods were also pretty sweet. They are making a bit of a comeback now but have a bit of catching up to do.

    Classy setup @Maca49

Don't get them valued as you would probably never use them afterwards

If they are English ones. There was a lot of Japanese split canes from certain eras and are not great value.

Would feel like flogging a limp noodle these days against the current super light and extreme speed rods.

I was truly envious of some of my older mentors collections of Wheatley fly boxes.

my dad still uses one of these but his reel was made here in NZ, Christchurch I believe. They are still a very nice rod even by todays standards.
