    Black trout

Took my son fishing at Lake Opuha today and saw a very dark coloured fish sitting almost stationary about a metre from the waters edge. Had no interest in looking at a spinner and wasn't worried that we were standing right next to it.
I finally tossed a rock in front of it and it slowly moved away.
We continued around the lake edge and on the way back we found the same fish in the same place, hardly moving and not worried about us once again.
My son wanted to net it but I wouldn't let him as there's no way I was going to loose my ute over a manky fish.
Any thoughts on way it was so lethargic? Possibly blind?
    Why so dark?

Yes, we did wonder that. The sign said Salmon are in the lake.

Sounds like you might need a bow and fishing arrow

Haven't seen a salmon in that lake for years, once the rainbows got established fish n game stopped releasing them. My bet would be brown that is crook.i got one like that near Temuka some years back,it had big would, possibly from shag attack.

I caught a black trout.a few years ago,and one eye was white so obviously half blind.I will try to find the photo but don't hold your breathe as I have thousands of trout pictures and unsure what year it was.
