It is never good mikee. I was involved in a high speed crash between boats that ended in the death of one person on my eighteen foot rubber inflatable boat (as we were lower in the water, the other boat went right over top of us). To this day I wish I had been in control of my boat instead of the person that was, as I am sure that I would have reacted differently.
It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.
What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms
I still have shivers from doing a stupid thing as the new owner of a boat, following in my mates wake, with his son and mine sitting on the back of his the boat, legs over facing me. Not going all that fast, when he stopped! I yelled an went so hard to starboard, it chucked me to the other side of the boat on the floor, the last thing I saw was my bow going over the top of his engine. Good thing was the extremely fast reactions of my mate who dropped the hammer. We missed by inches and the boys were unscathed, but it could have been a very different outcome.
Boat accidents give little protection
Boom, cough,cough,cough
Ban boats I recon make nz safer
This could bring up another topic of
" should you have to do the marine/boating course before you are allowed to drive/own a boat".
When my brother in law got his boat he was green as fuck , almost rolled us over in the shallow water by facing the side of the boat to the waves. Took me too tell him too get out deeper and put the nose into the waves to prevent distaster. ( the shore had cut in and we were racing along parallel to the shore)
Im no super sailor , but I had spent lot of time with my old man in his various boats over the years to pick up a lot of boat smart.(not tooting my own horn)
Passed on a lot of knowledge to my brother in law and now he is abit smarter on the water and not as green as he once was.
Patience Is A Virtue
Very sad outcome.
It sent a shiver down my spine when I saw the story emerge this morning, as a forum member and his family are regular boaters in that bay
Forgotmaboltagain+1
Following GPS route back in maybe?
Not a good outcome.
Please excuse spelling, as finger speed is sometimes behind brain spped........ Or maybe the other wayy.....
A huge thank you to those that have being in touch to check up on me and my kin, we are all safe and well! Thank you all
A tragic accident and I have no more details than what is in the media, it was dark dark Friday and Saturday night, my heart goes out to those fisherman lost and injured!
Go well everyone.
Nil durum volenti !!
I thought it was another type of boating accident
You'd have to wonder if both (or either of them) had the nav lights on
Deceased man from Upper Moutere, two injured men both from Motueka.
Well known in the area. Very Sad
It does sound like lighting (or lack there of) may have been a factor, especially on the moored vessel.
More will be known with time and investigation.
Thoughts with all families involed

Its not what you get but what you give that makes a life !!
I'm in two minds. It seems like madness that you can take a boat out, or in my case a 180HP jetski without any training. On the other hand, I see a boat license as another tax that honest, law abiding people will pay, while the ferals that are likely to cause problems ignore it and just carry on regardless. Who is going to enforce a boat license in the Far North? It's the wild west on the water.
I'm out on the water a lot and see all sorts of crazy shit. People hooning along at night or in thick fog with no lights etc. With the story in question (if it's accurate, you have to wonder with today's journalism), what led to the accident? No flood lights, no radar, not looking where they were going?
Condolences to the Family and friends of the deceased.
Tragic end to a days fishing.
