First time fishing for a while as I have been skiing up a storm, but popped over to the mouth of the Matukituki this arvo and picked up a nice rainbow. Ate him for dinner.

Hey all the pros...Do you think #12 fly hook can catch a legal size trout? The biggest hook I can buy from here is #10, but I do `t like it. The fish is about 25cm I landed recently, a stream fighter using #12. Thank you, I am going to fishing my shopping list and go "home".

Easy. I'm often using size 14 in Taupo rivers and mouths during spawning runs. No problems for fish 6lb+. And plenty big fish get landed on 16/18 dries which are finer wire.
