20 this year on the spinner.
Just getting started into trout fishing, at the moment collecting all the gear I need. I picked up these spin lures but I want replace the treble hooks with singles after losing a lure while practicing my casting down at the local creek while fishing for carp. Does anyone know how to get the treble off without cutting the eye? I'd like to keep the hook.

Went and had a look at Hakanoa lake in Huntly after work, no luck, can't see why any fish would live in that rust coloured water, maybe koi? Tried lake Puketirini last sunday but too many people swimming, jet skiing and boating
Nice 4lb jack night fishing

Had no luck. Have been going to Horotiu bridge after work almost every night after work for the past two weeks, theres trout there but getting no bites only baby trout following my lures. I will admit I'm a novice at trout fishing, using different lures, baits and softbaits and using all the different techniques I see n youtube but no joy. Must be something I'm doing wrong, the trout there are fussy eaters or the water conditions there aren't right and I need to move somewhere else? There's koi in those waters but they won't take the corn baited hooks I throw out. I've only caught rudd there without even targeting them.
A rare Whangarei trout, or should I say freshwater sprat!
Reel and braid are JDM, 3lb braid not available in NZ. Ultralight rod is AliExpress, seems to work. 1.4g jighead.

The Upper Grey in heavy rain yesterday
But the river is back up at a good flow and not gin clear so there were a few trout about

Cruised up to hit the Tongariro after the fresh. Unfortunately even though the flow had dropped, she was still pretty dirty. I wet lined for a bit but nothing was happening so pulled pin and headed to a small stream mouth for a flick.
Only there 10 minutes and this cracker grabbed my fly:)
Thick as, big Brown jack just under 8lbs:cool:

Been a while since I chased any trout, stopped to stretch our legs on the way home from up north and managed to trick this one.
Kids are handy for making a small fish look bigger haha!
