Caught both a rainbow and a brown this arvo. Both quite small so caught and released.
Are lake shores worth fishing in summer? Was thinking of giving the lower reaches of the Makarora river a try if the lakes aren’t worth spinning along the edges.
Caught a Rainbow 2nd cast this morning and smoked it up for breakfast :)
@Haggie summer fishing of lakes can still be good, probably better early morning or late evening. The fish will move into deeper water as the day warms up.
Yea I have only been fishing within a couple of hours of sun up/down. Have had more luck in the morning than the arvo.Quote:

LAKE ARGYLE TAG COMP UPDATE
We have had half of the 200 tagged fish returned so far, and one lucky angler has won a $500 fish! We have also given away lure packs and 3 fishing licences for next season. The good news is there is still a $500 fish swimming in the lake as well as plenty of other possible prize winning fish.
@Dundee The young fellas Lake Argyle prize was a lure pack. Sounds interesting, I will post a photo when it arrives.

Lost a couple while jumping but still didn't take long for us to get one each. All hatchery fish as had half the top fin cut off.

Yea I could see the piles of rock around the shore where people had been bait fishing. The family pond had a bit of color in it today and we had no trouble hooking them on spinners.Quote:

@Dundee Rotorua could do with a bit of possum trapping they are very thick on the ground up there. That's a bloody nice fish too [emoji106]

I used to have great success fishing the shore of lake Taupo with the Tokoroa chicken. Eventually make a larger version I called a Taupo Turkey. Bounced across a sandy bottom they worked a treat. Best fish I caught on it was an 8 1/2 lb Brown right next to the Hole in One golf.Quote:

Headed to a CNI river today to make the most of the fine weather. Cicadas were in full voice, nothing screams dry fly action as much as hot weather and Cicadas chirping away, ended the day with 8 landed mosty smaller fiesty rainbows with a couple of bigger ones in the mix, lost about the same amount and had a few smash the dry fly buy no hookups. Even had the indicator smashed by a feisty little bow. Good day on the river and my fly throwing skills are improving.
Rainbows of this size made up the day, this one took the cicada, love the surface takes thats what dry fly fishing is about for me.
