61...that's my boy!! Two epic days and we've reached our 100!! Good luck out there.
I was at your Manawatu a few weeks ago and it was poopy brown...I was only there for a second or I woulda tried to track down the local trout slayer extraordinaire :)
Beauty @Sharki!! Looks like a giant steelhead...more sleek than most giant trout I've seen pics of here. Almost a meter?
Any tips for fishing karapiro?tried the other evening with my boy off the pontoons at rowing club, lots of fish rising on dark but no takes, was using light spinning gear with small rapalas, maps spinners, black /gold Toby and some small soft baits but no takes..where are we going wrong?any advice appreciated, gonna try at the base of the dam in next couple of days hopefully, never fished there before either.
Little tackka got a ripper [emoji3]

We have just got home and given that fish a weigh up. It went 9 & 3/4 pd gutted and gilled. (68cm)
My mother has a brown trout mounted that was caught by her in the pomahaka river when I was 7 years old. It is one of my great childhood memories that fish. It went 9 & 3/4 pd whole.
Her fish has held the family trout record for 42 years but it has now been broken by my 7 year old. I can't tell you how special that is for both me and her. [emoji3]
Amazing !!

Took my old man (visiting from Oz) out for a cast up the Wairau on Friday morning. I've caught a few along the river in the past five years but always released them to fight another day, safe to say though my luck on finding spots you can walk to and reliably catch something has been fickle.
This hen absolutely inhaled the spinner and gill-hooked itself, was bleeding badly turning belly up by the time it was in the net so that's the first trout I've taken home to eat since moving to NZ in 2018. Long time coming and still a good day on the river with the greybeard.
Few more and I might start recovering the costs of my fishing licenses...https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...4d559c705a.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8dc7360455.jpghttps://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/202...8b5d7884f4.jpg

Feel a bit ashamed to put up a Pic after that
Been a long time since I've been out, took a mate for his first proper river trout, he managed to snag a nice one on a softbait that I designed and made the molds for.Attachment 241962
Here's what they look like, I'm pretty happy with them

It seems this paragraph might have confused a few of you. The "her" I was referring to was my mother. I don't have a daughter, my 7year old is a boy [emoji106]
He's a jammy wee bugger that trout is not the only family fish record he holds [emoji2957]
Thing is he has a relentlessly positive attitude and gives it 110 all the time. A good reminder that if you do that anything is possible !!
ATM he is constantly pestering me about tuna !! [emoji41]

Oh wow. I’m doing a fishing trip this year and want to have a good look around those areas.
Beautiful!
Well done anyway.
Night mish last night, 1st up I got this dirty bugger. Its the third one this year and the biggest at almost 1.5lbs:pissed off:
Attachment 243212
Then this nice 4.5lb jack, he was chocker with smelt when I gutted him:cool:
Attachment 243213
Got this lil fatty on the thunderbug
Attachment 243646
Then went to Akitio and a seagull picked up my lure.rod was bent real was screaming then the nylon snapped.
Attachment 243647
You have to play those seagulls different to a trout Dundee. Definitely need to keep the tip of the rod low after you set the hook. Ha ha ha ha.
I’m very excited about a new year for @Dundee!!! Get em son!!
Thunder bug does it again.
