no we didnt......cause the lake is nearly dry..yeah yeah more trout per litre and all that, but still no joy..looking rather drastic to be honest, wont be needing the dingy for duckshooting, will be dusty n dry unless we get a heap of rain.
A solid rainbow on the green mepps thunder bug before losing the lure to the willows.
Attachment 245626

Was one of those strange ones....nice and dark, fish jumping everywhere but not many hook ups.
I managed to hook 4 landing 2....a 3.5lb Rainbow jack that was a bit slabby that was let go and a nice Brown hen just over 7lbs that came home:cool:

23 month old young lad gave a few winds on this one. Estimate. Bit hard to cast a fly rod with him in the pack so back to spinning.
They are beautifully conditioned fish , what is in their gut? Koura ,Bullies,Mice, cicadas, or just mixture ?
a bit hard fishing at the moment...so we havent bothered to try and launch the boat.Attachment 247590

Though we did not catch any trout but son was pretty keen on going fishing. Took him out to Manawatu as it's just a 10mn walk from home. He was chuffed as but I was too afraid to be there without a freshwater fishing license. It's sunny here today and he is going to pester me again for taking hm fishing so need to sort out the license asap. Another thing I don't want him to get discouraged coz of not catching anything so anyone familiar with this area please suggest where we ill have high chances of catching anything. Size species doesn't matter. We were using Mepps spinners for lures.

Take yr son out within near casting distance of those willows in the last photo.Trout like the cover of trees with insects dropping of them.Small black and green hex 12gram there abouts.Fish the last hour of day light.
@Trout my guess is they're all stacked up waiting for a fresh to trigger their spawning runs.
