We find it to be better than pilchards and mullet. stays on the hook really well and is oily enough to attract fish. Blue mackerel and skippies are too nice to use as bait!!

we catch them with bows and arrows, or a fyke net. works a charm.

tried koi of cape Karikari burley and bait - a spot that normally produced good snapper- had no luck with it went back to skipjack - surprised many on here had success with it - maybe should have tried again --but cannot eat skipjack in any form just cant stand the smell

maybe auckland snapper like it better we even use catfish as bait and burley. mince the carp and catfish frames up. fillet them and voila. we find it stays on the hook well.

Better than mullet! Heresy! Its works ok and it's a good use for a pest fish but........Nothing is better than mullet.
