    Disappointed to see this.

Lots of people like to complain about commercial fishermen but us recreational could up our game too.

I was pissed off to see this large ray in a popular dog exercise area and literally on the boat ramp with its barb cut off and ikied in the head and just left on the beach in the sun.

They are not that difficult to handle once beached, If you are really pissing your pants about taking the hook out just cut the line as close as possible and let it go.

Killing it for the sake of it and leaving it in the sun is just being a wanker.

I saw a commercial fishermen back 40 years ago on the Manukau Harbour dealing with rays in his flounder nets. He was grabbing the barb in his gloved hands, bending it forward over the rays back till it snapped off at the base, then grabbing it by the eye sockets, pulling them out of the net and throwing them over the side after stabbing them between the eyes with a knife. Almost got into a fight with the guy when I told him he was an arsehole...... Found out it was a common practice in those days later.....

While I am not surprised nowdays most commercial guys have quite a respect for everything they catch.....after all todays rubbish fish may be tomorrow's high value quota species.

not as shitty as cutting the dorsal fins off and letting them swim away to die, all for the sake of soup

Apparently if you cut sting ray flaps into rounds they taste alot like scallops. Most of the takeaway ones are probably just sting rays.

Just have to make sure there's no heavy metals in the shallows they are going over.

It takes 43 muscle's to frown and 17 to smile, but only 3 for proper trigger pull.

Stringray taste delicious! In Malaysia, commonly wrapped in banana leaf with spicy sauce, then grilled over a bbq.

If ya gonna eat it all good, but if your not planning to then how hard is it to cut the line close to the hook and let it swim off.
There sure are some dipshits out there
