    Dusky Sound

I am tagging along on a charter in June.

I can imagine that as I spent 10 days in a tent in Sutherland sound and had a mean storm .....only a day and a bit but very intense!

we hunted 10 days before meeting the boat and can agree it was pretty bloody horrible for much of the time. hills and cliffs were like vertical swamps

Give Fiordland frontier supplies a bell. Russell can give you some tips. I myself am yet to venture that far out onto what's effectively my doorstep, if you need a place to stay just let me know

I think we are sorted for accommodation in Te Anau but if SHTF I will get in touch.

spent 7 days on boat down there this time last year. two words sandfly repelent

Had half a day of semi ok weather the rest was perfect. got more sunburnt that if I went to fiji.
Would have liked to do more hunting as we only had 3 hunters out of a party of 11. Had one decent hunt where a couple of big animals had been. the other couple of hunts were more nerve racking, climbing up we got bluffed out around the 600 meter mark and trying to get down wasn't much fun

went scuba diving, seen the black coral, monster crays etc, got scallops etc, the tannin in the water cleared right up for my dives and had viz down to 30-40m, its impressively hard to judge depth in such clear water on a single sided face. wish id taken a gopro
    lots of local history.

the chopper flight out was awesome, one in a million clear day up high, and the aerobatics of the pilot trying to a find hole in the low cloud base over the te anau plateau,

so all in all we got 6.5 days of perfect 25degC+ weather so extremely lucky
