Thread: Few days fishing East Cape

Last Week the wife and I and brother-in law his partner and mate headed up past Te kaha to a nice place we have fished on and off for quite a few years. In the past we rented a house from a mate at work but this time we just camped out of the truck.
When we arrived it was blown a gale and the sea was angry, setting up camp was a mission as the tarp was just about blown away.
No problem though as we just slept in the back of the ute, my brother-in law built a wall from drift wood then made a frame for the tarp which worked a treat.
Fishing was not much cop that first day but managed a few small Kawhai. The following day after exploring the rocky bays we fished the incoming tide in much calmer conditions.
Once again a few fish, snapper and Kawhai were caught enough for smoked fish for lunch.
Fishing the evening tide resulted in the wife catching a couple of just undersize snapper so they went back for another day, later that night after we had given in to sleep the brother-in law caught a couple of snapper and a sting ray one of two caught.
the following day we broke camp and headed home as I had a deer in the fridge that needed to be cut up and frozen.
Was a nice break away on a beautiful piece of coastline, which we will visit again I am sure of that.
