Thread: First for the new season

The Manawatu River is still high after recent rain but the 1st of October doesn't change much on this river as it is open season all year. I went down just before dark and a few were rising, had one bite and lost one lure that I will retrieve when the water level drops.



2nd of October 2014 day two off the new season. Weather warm with high winds and rain on the way.



Started of with a rapala as I fish with a spinning rod not a fly rod.

Fished for a while longer and the wind was getting stronger,still no bites.

Waded back to the bank to meet my dog and try a soft bait. I cut off the treble hooks leaving just the one hook facing up where the treble hook was. This reduces snags.



Still no luck with soft bait so I climb the bank too view the incoming weather looking towards the Southern Ruahine Ranges. By this time spots of rain were falling and the wind was getting stronger.



So Me and the mutt headed towards the quad and decided to go over the bank in a different location from where I was fishing. Back where we started on the first day of the season.

Pink lightning toby was the next lure attached to my 'Daiwa' telescopic rod and a few cast later the reel was screaming! Dog come back to see what was going on as I landed a nice rainbow.



The rise started tonight at 1930hrs but I had one on the spinner so left the water.



Back home by 2000hrs
