What setup people normally use for rig when fishing from the beach?

tackle wise I use a pulley rig it helps with casting a bit further out, incoming to high tide, and dirty water/night time is also helpful but when they're around in big numbers you'll get them during the day as well. paddle crabs/prawns for bait.
