Did you load the reel yourself?
I think if it's loaded too tightly, then the line has a tendency to 'spring' out once the tension comes off the lower wraps of line, i.e. when you cast.
May be overfilled spool or a design fault. What reel is it?
How the heck did you manage that?
Line too heavy and lure too light
Your a talented man to achieve that tangle, that’s some high level muppetry there
Cheap mono can fly off the reel pretty easy with bail arm over, has no memory cancelling properties so likes to stay coiled then springs off if there's no resistance.
that IS NOT a birds nest.....that is hardly even an issue..... 3.5grm is a VERY VERY light lure...7grms is pretty much std weight for trout since Adam was a cowboy... yip there are smaller rapalas etc but even they would go 5grms... old school trick to sort kinks out of line is to attach small float with swivel and allow it to drift off downstream...then sit there for some time before winding it back in slowly... weight dangled off a high bridge works even better....
I don't understand. Where has that line come from? The mainline comes off the spool and straight through the bail arm roller?
lol yep I think the black rabbit has gone down his hole to meet up with Alice in wonderland :)
I would say spool is overfilled but that one doesn't look like it even if the extra line was back on the spool.
I always wind my own line on these days and make sure there is a fair bit of tension so it packs on right. Hunting and fleecing wound some on one of my baitrunners a few years back and it was as loose as a goose in a moose.
What happened mate, did it jump off the top and you cut it off and left it on the top for a pic ?
Gibo is correct in post #8
Cheap mono can do that in the blink of an eye when the bail arm is open and the loose line isn’t controlled just before the lure hits the water
Did you wind the line on with good consistant tension on it when first putting it on?
If you can do that on a spin reel / eggbeater reel Dont even look at a free spool / over head reel .
If you follow the line it comes off the spool, goes through bail arm roller then up on angle as if going to first rod guide....i cant see how that extra line coiled around drag even comes into the equation:cave:
Ask @bunji he will know how it happened [emoji41]

Its a wee Fantail nest on the piss.
Alright...to gents upstairs. Something what you have `t experienced yet, does`t means it is true. I am bit of old to do what you call shits, jack up....I even do `t look my phone until it ring, so you may know what sort of people I am. If you do `t believe it, I can make a short video and I am sure that reel will make same bird nest again. The picture, I trim it as I always do for reason of saving some storage space of this great site since I do`t know how they support those ongoing costs for server, and piles of load multi medias, lots pictures even low quality ones, the size is above 5mb. So, how would I drive 100km to take a fake photo, for you to tell me a shit....come on we all grown ups.
I take whatever you gents said as compliment because at least you gents thinking about fact, not the man, are you. :pacman: But who is bunji anyway?
I think there are two scenarios 1) The reel is timed incorrectly so the spool is moving too far in or not far enough out - the wraps should cross and hold the line back. 2) after making a cast there has been a bit of loose line hanging in front of the reel (poor casting technique) and when the bail arm comes over, because of its shape, the first wraps have been above the spool and caught on the drag knob, most times this would just make a 'bird nest'.
Third scenario the spool is the wrong one for the reel - mixed up. I have done this myself with different models of the same make.
Fourth, the reel is rubbish - buy a Daiwa or shimano
I agree with your first and last scenarios. This reel is an OEM, I bought it one night before fishing trip for my wife since she likes fishing but do `t have much skills with bait caster reel and I do `t have much experience neither of using spin reel for light lure fishing. I used spin reels for many years, but seldom use it in stream with light lures. Thank you. Buying OEM product is like a block box, maybe will get something good with very cheap price.
I don't see any problem there....but where is the trout.lol.?Fuck i've seen bird nests.
