Yes frost fish.
Will only be found on the beach in certain conditions. From memory needs to be a frost followed by fog.
My Dad told me story’s of when he was a kid circling down castle cliff beach in Whanganui picking these up in the morning before the gulls got at em.
Think he even has a photo somewhere of him and his brothers with them over the handlebars.
They get quite long and are meant to taste really good. are a deep water fish.
Also they make a sound when they come in through the surf, grunting or moaning I can’t remember which he told me now but I’ll ask him.
