Its not what you get but what you give that makes a life !!
My son’s photos he wouldn’t say where …but giving the weight belt in the photo they are out of okiwi ..so I’d say green hills between okiwi and Durville in the blue blue water
Nil durum volenti !!
They always turn up off okiwi (cape soucis) first mate, it where the currents take them.

Going from what we learnt last year your, on the 100% on the money 40 odd meters find the bait find the tuna, they will be all through the bay soon no weather for the next couple of weeks will have water temps pushing blue water right up the guts .
Must be the odd stickface fish coasting down with the currents ….two months left of our blue water …plenty of time!
Nil durum volenti !!
Why is the forecast always like this? A man just wants to go fishing on his days off
lol ain't that always the wayEven if you could sneak out early Monday morning, with the crap rolling in behind it the "green" might not even eventuate
Bit too much swell to get the boat out over Ohiwa Bar and with a strong SE forecast the skipper didn't want to risk it, so we headed up the back waters of the harbour to fish the last half of the out going tide.
Sitting in 2.5m on the edge of a 3.5m hole with plenty of burley, fishing half anchovies on a floating rig saw a few good size trevally and kahawai boated. Plenty of undersized snapper and blue mackerel made up the rest of the day. Ended up with enough for dinner and a Kahawai to smoke up tomorrow.
Shallow water fishing middle of the day, surrounded by green hills and sand banks, there is something special about fishing our shallow estuarys.. bring on the kingfish and bigger snapper as they return to feed up in Autumn.

Don't discount blue mackerel for eating. Takes seconds to knock the fillets off, then in a hot pan with butter and salt, skin side down. Yum!

About a minute and a half from the end he gets one.
Hey Tasman chaps, have you got so many kings you just sight fish them in knee deep water?
Yeah the rat kings are everywhere this time of year if we don't get any rain events.
Snapper are everywhere and especially in golden Bay this time of year.
They are so hungry to fatten up after the spawn and so numerous that they can even be caught without bait tho this is much less effective.
"Hunting and fishing" fucking over licenced firearms owners since ages ago.
308Win One chambering to rule them all.
One of the smartest things I ever heard a fisherman say is "you can't try and do too many things or you just end up being no good at any of them" Albacore are a kick in the pants for sure but that commodity is one I'm familiar with...I hear tell the hardest fighting fish in the world lives in these waters and the heart wants what the heart wants. It sounds like an absurd statement but you make your own life choices...it's up to you. That's what I absolutely love about NZ fishing, you can choose what you want to do...fly fish, spin fish, trout, snapper, albies, bait, spear, burley, shore based casting, rapalas, softbaits, trolling. You choose your own destiny...and my destiny is to suck
Found a spot to cast before work and the first day I tried her 30min in a boat caught one right in front of me trolling right where I trolled a few times, no love for me. Day two I had a helluva nice guy show up and proceed to cast about 100M further than I could. I giggled as soon as I saw him cast once and just spent the rest of my trip watching how a real fisherman casts. Moral of the story is that I apparently need a 13' surf casting rod...baby steps. I'm loving the process and could honestly give a shit about catching a fish, I have the opportunity to drink coffee in one of the most beautiful places on earth and watch the sun come up and then head off to work.
PS: One of the final deciding factors in me absolutely loving this place even before moving here was the pictures on this website...huntin=dead deer, fishin=dead fish or person holding fish...but a short story about how much fun the journey was to said fish/deer. Pictures of the actual trip instead of "hero shots" galore for the insta. One of the last things I saw in the states was a picture of a dude staging beautiful pictures of his clam catch...that's right fully edited and gorgeous pictures of clams on the Oregon coast. I saw one of the more famous social media hunter guys in the states take hours staging photos of his deer (on the side of the road where it was shot)...just crazy to me all of that. Do we fish and hunt or shall we strive to make ourselves movie stars. You guys have it DAILED IN don't buy into the hype. Shitty thing is a weekly show entitled "The Great Kiwi Flounder Expedition" would probably be the best show on television.
Okay Joe I’ll contribute some episode titles for the first year of your flounder series and then leave the rest up to the others to add some more.
Episode One : Spearing Flounder with a home made Manuka spear.
episode Two : Catching Flounder with Sweet Corn on a Sprat Hook.
Episode Three : Spotlighting Flounder during a Full Moon.
Episode Four : Netting Flounder in the Estuary with a Bunch of Mates.
Episode Five : Floundering the Change of Tide in a Dinghy with Pop
Episode Six : Flour and Egg Flounder the way Rushy’s Nan did it.
Might need a couple of ring ins for the Pop and Nan episodes. Ha ha ha ha

What more do we need? If we are above ground and breathing the rest is up to us!
Rule 1: Treat every firearm as loaded
Rule 2: Always point firearms in a safe direction
Rule 3: Load a firearm only when ready to fire
Rule 4: Identify your target beyond all doubt
Rule 5: Check your firing zone
Rule 6: Store firearms and ammunition safely
Rule 7: Avoid alcohol and drugs when handling firearms
Maybe you could fill one of those spots Rushy. Nowadays you can even choose whether you want to be Pop or Nan!
