Jig addiction??!! My therapist has sooooo many other issues that are more pressing!! Honestly a year ago I was planning to move to NZ for the rest of my life so buying 30-45yr worth of jigs seemed like "the smart thing to do"
Don't worry about me and my kingi...I'll get me one over the next few decades. I think I'm going out Tuesday to give it an effort.
PS: I must be working my way up in the world because I've already placed a jig on a reef in the French Pass area

The bloke has issues! Though when he visited yesterday day he was talking about slow trolling a Kawahai for a kingi, so there is hope for the fella yet!

Fish were about , but spooky and cunning , wind blew making fishing tricky ..dropped nymph size to smallest I could thread the nylon through..plenty of interest but to much belly in the line when trying to set the hook..

Great day saw a heap of fish , some cruising past right at my feet whilst my nymph was sitting out wide trying to fool another fish ...heart stopping stuff .

Yeah me too...probably I got more than that lump in my storage. Did `t gone for fishing for quite a while, but I did bought lot of fishing gears, jigs, flies, lines, hooks....The pain of shopping online is time consuming, but it `s cheap.

I went for the great Kiwi Slam this long weekend...stingray, trout and kingi.
We put the hammer down on some rays in Mapua...had the girls on the end of our paddlepoards spotting cruising rays and watching em and giggling (mostly the girls) and screaming (mostly me), it was a sweet trip, boards didn't even blow off'n the subaru on the way there/back!!
I went after trout with some steelhead tactics I was really good at back in 2009...I found the same 8# brown that I've been looking at off the same bridge for the past 3 months. I am now 100% sure that trout is on the FGNZ payroll to entice anyone who looks off the bridge to go buy a license. Crazy having an apex predator also be the most spooky animal around, he turned on my bobber, like he wanted to eat a mouse, the first time I reeled it in and that was that...pretty sure an @stingray ground and pound rapala in his face woulda done it...either way, you only get one chance. Fished 3km downstream like a ninja and then I'd try and see if there were any fish in the runs and I never saw another fish. I did find a pretty stellar patch of blackberry to test out my waders on the way back. Absolutely a pleasure to walk a stretch of stream in this beautiful country, gave me peace in my heart.
Of course on Waitangi Day I joined the party at the Nelson marina at first light, it was awesome. We have kinda the same tradition where I come from on spring chinook openers. It always warms my heart that there are certain days where everyone who owns a boat says "We're going out on the water TODAY!!" Anyway, the best thing that came out of my fishin efforts today was naming my new boat, which is a jetski...her name is Boatski. Trolled a 30' Rapala around the boulder bank and I did see another boat doing the same so that was pretty encouraging. Usually this time of year I'm night fishing at 1.1mph in 5 degrees and catching fish that fight like a wet towel...the desire to catch the quintessential NZ saltwater predator has got me. I think I'll go to casting at structure and jigging next trip as I'm really not much of a troll man.
So 1 for 3 on the Kiwi-Slam but man it was beautiful to finally get out there and do some stuff. Soooo happy to be here!! Also got to talk to a dozen strangers this long weekend...they always assure me that we did the right thing in moving here...we moved here for the people and I love these people. Cheers mates.

Yes, you need to put up with it busting off in windy or rip tide days. I used to use heavy nylon but upgraded to light cable ties
