Correct. Little strips of kahawai on the end. A mate put me on to the idea.

A small note of no importance:
I've been watching some local Kayak fishermen you tubers, now that health prevents me from doing same.
One guy has a camera he sends down on a line to see what's going on.
Conclusions are:
There are crayfish on the sea floor in daytime roaming about, more often than you'd think.
Fish, will come up and nip the camera, the sinker, the swivel, the lure, the plastic and the bait to see if it's edible, then return to the bait for consumption.
All kinds of fish, snapper terakihi, blue cod, leather jackets...
Seems that sight will convince them to try the thing and taste/smell will get them to bite.
Trip over to port underwood today to get my Son away from his devices for a bit.
Spot one and 2 down the coast vis was so bad I couldn't make out my fingers if I stretched out my arm.
Back into the heads and out of the swell vis was better at maybe 1.5m and plenty of Paua around but the biggest of the groups were all 1-2mm undersized.
Spot 4 and maybe 2m vis here...plenty of paua but same again with the size.
I must have removed at least 50 of the biggest in the patch to get one keeper.
Kiakoura being closed for so many years sure has put this place under pressure!

That looks bloody tasty Gibo.
Just a had really enjoyable week staying at Wilson Bay in outer Pelorus http://wilsonbayfarm.com/
Went there with friends and their 3 kids (4,7,10). Fished everyday but 2 and those were spent just relaxing and going goat hunting with my wife or the 10yr old. My wife was rapt to shoot her first animals (large billy and a nanny).
Had the opportunity to visit a salmon farm and meet @300wsm for life. Amazing place and so much more labour intensive than I thought it'd be. Thanks Dan!
Our fishing good with it being fairly easy and rapid 2 blue cod per person when we wanted it. Also got a few gurnard, a kahawai and some butterfly perch.

This is the bait I used. Mini crawfish from the local Hamils and a trout sized jig head.

@Gibo How did that Flounder fight?
:D like a dinner plate. Getting him to bite and the bite were the highlights. Had to have three passes at him to get the bite. Was a bit disappointed it was the only one I saw, last week I saw quite a few but didnt have the baits for it, was squidding that night.
So you are sight fishing at night?
Whats your squid technique? I'm keen to try.
