Packing the gear for a backcountry trout mission tomorrow
Attachment 270652
My boy caught one on a jig from the shore and they are not a super common species in these parts.

I have managed a few Rig on jigs over the years, especially in the sounds for some reason
Tomorrows fishing trip to Kaiaua got canceled so I may have a second go at trout fishing instead. Went out to the Waikato river this to try my hand at trout fishing, first time ever, was highly uneventful, probably left it too late? Was out bow fishing for koi during the late afternoon with a workmate and thought I'd try catch a trout after but doubt the fish are biting after 7pm at this time of year? Fingers crossed for tomorrow. Does anyone know any good spots for trout between Huntly and Hamilton?
Finally!

Good to have Dad on board the little boat for a change. Didnt have to go far from the local launch spot. 10m mark was firing.
Heaps of small brim were let go, the good ones hitting the ice in the bin. No tangles either so that was good for a three generations trip [emoji41]
Young fella was doing a steller job on the net. We had plenty in no time.
So back in [emoji106]
Dad was a good help at the filleting table, making great use of @zeropak bags, cheers !

There was a nice trevally in the bin too which I meant to get a photo of but I was too slow and it ended up lunch.
