    Fly Fishing around Palmerston North

Hi guys, i am a student at Massey University and am looking for a few pointers on places to fish in the area. I frequent the Pohongina Valley & Ashurst area for hunting but not to sure about good fishing spots. I have heard the Manawatu & Pohongina both offer reasonable fishing, just wondering if anyone could recommend some acsess points? Also any tips on whats flys to try at this time of the year?

Feel free to PM me also.

    Cheers,

    Hay mate
I got a couple of mates that fish both rivers and the rangitaiki river further afield.
Allways see people up stream from the bridge at ashhurst and down from the george walk carpark

I have fished both quite a bit, the Manawatu is a very good brown trout fishery, Mostly I fished north of town, and As I have a mate up the pohongina, spend a few days up there every year, I prefer the pohongina, mostly because its smaller and suits my style of fishing more,
Rangitaki and the manawatu will have sum big fish close to the mouth right now, with whitebait season, I always found the Manawatu more productive than the other rivers, couple good rivers just over the hill as well,
I normally head up from one of the bridges on the pohongina, The rangitaki has tracks from bridges north at bulls, and next bridge up stream, Fish and game will have an info pamphlet on the manawatu.

Around Oringi has lots of good access points on the Manawatu River. I mainly fish upstream but heading down that way now.
