Buy best ya can ta start with... sage vantage good starting point! Get some flys some tippet some indicators and few spare tapered leaders..... i would go into detail but its a fookn lot to type onto a touvhscreen.....

Find some loon to give you verbal advice as youll never get the jist u really need via words!!

Trust me on this and look into casting lessons... it will make it so much easierto pick up! Or ull tear ur hair out literally!!!

Get itvright and you can catch a fukload a fishes!!

If you wanna fish taupo u want an 8 weight if u want to fish smaller rivers u want a 6 weight! Try to find a flyline wuth a long bellied taper or a double taper they are easy to learn to cast with and move to a specialised taper when you pick it up!!!

Get a good book on it and talk to a local outfitter, or go to a local anglers club, I mostly fish the lakes which is a little different. I had a nice 8'-0" rod when I fished the rivers in the Wairarapa, good for under willows etc, not long casting. I have a very got book on learning to cast but it's in Taupo will be there Queens birthday can copy and send after that.

Beware of cheap sets being sold online... liken it to buying a stevens or one of those shitty remmington 710s.. it will make it harder and more likely to throw in the towel

sage have really good combos which is great for starting out ya just need an idea of what type of fly fishing your mostly going to do to start with first ie nymphing, dry fly which will help you choose your line weight,im only a novice but wippy action's in your fly rod are a must.will you fish the hutt river?we have a lot of guys from wellies come up to fish the upper manawatu up here alot.
