Fly rod repair - help please

Today I turned what could have been a passable day fly fishing to a pretty average one. Breaking the tip section of my favourite 7'6" 4-5wt CD rod.
The break seems clean enough but it's pretty skinny where it's snapped so it's going to need something really thin to glue inside it.

Has anyone here done their own fly rod repair and if so could you recommend a good source for where to get a blank I can cut a piece out of to insert?

Or, could you recommend somewhere in NZ that has provided good service on a rod repair?

It's not a super duper rod and tbh a bit cumbersome for packing being only a 2pc rod. But I like the short length of it. Nicely balanced and works well with a short overall length when dealing with a bit of breeze and wanting to keep the cast tight and close to you. Also comes into it's own in tight spaces.

trademe will have donor rod to insert a bit off..... I bought a 6 piece off there for sweet stuff all as tip section was broken..I heated tip ring with ciggy lighter,to pop it off,then cleaned up end of tip section and simply slipped ring back on the now shorter section...works really well and the 5-6" less isnt noticed at all.

The only flyrod repairs that I have seen have been a piece of hollow fiberglass rod slipped over the break and glued and bound. Perhaps one of the local tackle shops would have a broken tip section from a Sage that they would give you a piece of before they send it away for replacement - its a lifetime 'no questions' replacement guarantee

My father would be one of the best builders of fly rods around. Ive seen him do many repairs to broken rods. If he cannot fix it, it cannot be done.

If you don't want to ship, I would go down to Taranaki Hunt and fish, see Kyle in the fly fishing area, There was a rod builder on staff, a couple years back, I do however think he moved to CHCH, I am sure it can be fixed, weather its worth it or the action is affected is another question. a few inches off the tip wont matter too much,
I see CD rods sell tip sections, depending on weather your model is new, they may have a tip section.

Flyrods repaired in the tip section dont usually work too well. Much better to get hold of CD and get a new tip section. They may even do it for no cost.

Throw it away and buy a new one. Technology has advanced enough to make it worth your while. A repaired rod will seldom cast the same again, especially in the tip. Like everything, I suggest you buy the best you can.
7'6" is a really short rod. What do you use it for? Really tight stuff?
I have an 8'6" #5 and that's great for everywhere I want to go where I need a compact setup.

What @ Husky1600 said - go to the CD website and contact them. They have spare tips available, but may need you to see d the rod so they can match the tip. I got a price for a spare tip this week - $40 we t break the bank.

It struck me last night that this particular rod was with an unlimited lifetime warranty. It's a CD GIII 7'6" 4-5wt, 2 piece rod which is its only drawback for me.
Yep it really comes into its own for close quarter fishing. But can still throw a good length of line with it.

Anyway much to my wifes disbelief I dug out the warranty card from a box in the depths of all the other crap the garage has swallowed.

Will see how I get on with CD when I give drop them a line on Monday.

Otherwise I might take you up on that offer GWH.

And yes Kiwijames it may come to that, a new rod.
I've got a kilwell 4pc 8ft 6wt which has done a fair bit of back country and also done a fair bit of time on the Tongariro when I've been short of a bigger rod too. But the 7'6 I find a real sweet rod for throwing around dries and/or small nymphs so really hoping it can be saved.

you COULD ask them if they could convert it to four piece...possibly not that hard to do if going back anyway...
